We will miss you Shawn. Sorry, but take care of Dad. My parents are gone now and there is no way to make up for that time together. Dolly is doing the same with her 88 year old Mom. She spent most of today with her.

No problem with the print Shawn. Happy to help.
We will look forward to a visit from you and Bethe later in the season.

Bethe, have a wonderful time down there. Hope you two have the greatest.

Hey, our party is going up in smoke. Nobody else pull out please.

Dale and I spent the afternoon together talking cars, cameras and photographers. Fun stuff. Peter just got off the phone. The other day Bob Steckmeyer was kidding me about the Powers' monthly party. I really enjoy this. It is not difficult with good people. Hope somebody shows up tomorrow.

Again, sorry to miss everyone. Have fun. All the best. Shawn

Sorry you need to miss, Shawn. Enjoy your dad while you have him. Show him a good time. And let us know when you're headed this way again.

Bethe, have a great trip. You owe us a look at your Costa Rica shots later.

I plan to be at John's about 9am.

We had a great time seeing everyone again. We got to Country Maid 3 times in 2 days, which is a new record for me!

I was able to score a beautiful full plate sized tintype family portrait with hand coloring at the local swap meet, took 3 rolls of hopefully great photos, and had a blast talking with everyone present. It's always more enjoyable to go out shooting with others.

Many thanks to everyone showing their gear as well - Eva enjoyed seeing all the options, as she is thinking of moving away from the RZ67, and also getting to use John's 8x10. Now we get to develop the film and see what she got.

Thanks to Lee as well for loaning the 90mm - it's a very nice option for 4x5 work indeed.

Hope to see you all soon!

On the news this AM the Country Maid put out an all points bulletin to obtain supplies for this coming weekend. I tried to tell them that you were only visiting. They were sure you must be local in that no one had ever been able to move more than 100 feet after such consumption. I think you will have to come back to save their business.

It was great having you all back.

Thanks Paul. Not your fault. There was a miscommunication with the museum. I had been told the 14th. It was not to rush my work, because my thirty prints were due and delivered on Oct. 1. I saw that posting one hour before we sent the show card to the printer. A little fast shuffle and back in business. Show opens Oct. 24th and goes to Jan 15th. There are events linked to the Canal exhibit all that weekend that I want to attend. That was another reason for scheduling this event a week earlier.

The show itself is really three shows. There is a touring museum show about canal building. The Western Reserve Historical society is going to show historic photos from their large collection. Then they are going to show my thirty 7x17" images of the canal and its environment today. That is part of the same series that I have been working on to build a 100 pictures for a book through the University of Akron Press. I am at about 70 images now after about a year and a half on the project.

Dorothy,

Come on over. I am speaking 7 PM, Wednesday, Dec. 3Rd. I will bring the camera, baby jogger, do a dog and pony act and talk about the thirty prints. I may bring another six prints or so that I have done since. They say it much more eloquently. I have got to get that guy to write my artist’s statement.

“John Powers uses a special 7”x17” camera to create stunning studies of the Ohio & Erie Canal which are on display at the WRHS. Learn from John how he composes his photos to show the fascinating results of the battle of age, the devastating effects of flood, neglect and nature on the canal - once a beautifully constructed work of engineering. Free with museum admission.”

Cool, Cindy and Savannah at the museum. Makes sense, water dogs at a canal exhibit. Will there be apples or sticks involved? ... and I though your in-laws had horses, not ponies.

Me thinks you were hit on the head the last time the telescope swung around in the astronomy lab. Oh help the sky is falling!

just checking in to say "hi" and wondering...........

how cold is it in *your* back yard? It's 12 degrees here in Erie. I know it must be colder up in Michigan. Hope you are all enjoying this weather. And have a Merry Christmas / Happy Holiday / Happy New Year!

~Cheers,

Dorothy

The girls (yellow Labradors) and I went hiking this AM near Punderson or Newberry, OH, with our other group (Yahoo groups, hiking hounds). The temperature was in the low twenties with gusts of 50mph. Our greatest fear was not the cold but flying broken branches. Tonight after a wonderful meal, Dolly and I are curled up on the floor reading the papers we get, in front of the Christmas tree we put up last night, with Labradors at our socks. We just had the last step outside of the night for watering and the wind was blowing HARD. The weather radio says it is 1 degree F in Cleveland. We are 600 feet above that so I imagine we are breaking 0. Happy to read friends are warm and safe. I suppose the ones who may not be are not at their computers. Be careful and warm. Thank you for all the photo friends who have been here, some several times, since August. Please know you are welcome many more times in the coming year.

Eva & I were out last night at Holiday Nights in Greenfield Village - Walking around for 4 hours, outside, carolers etc. It was around 0F with wind gusts up to 45 mph. We're still warming up from the event!

Bad night in the cold

My family and I went over to Peak and Peak ski resort in New York to see there Christmas Light display. I-90 was a real mess. Light display so so. Very cold and windy at the top of the hill on the ski lift. Comming home almost near white out conditions and while there I backed into someone with a Cadilac Escalade. My first accident in over 30 years. I told my wife no more winter road trips. The pizza was good though. Now just when is this Global Warming thing supposed to take affect? I wish it would hurry up.

I was on I90 on the 22nd and it was terrifying. The large red pickup that went sideways right across our path a few car lengths in front of us before it hit a concrete barrier, almost taking us out, is a good example. This was just a few miles past the big curve in downtown cleveland. The roads got worse after that. We made it to Erie unscathed and got off for the night (around 2:30). I could barely see the the exit, or the road. I've driven a lot in the winter, but it was bad. Glad to be safe in Syracuse.

Hey all...I left Michigan (bad) on the 21st, spent two days in Chicago (unplanned + walked 6 blocks w/ luggage - coldest I've ever been), finally got to Seattle yesterday afternoon and am now snowed in outside of Issaquah. Stay home with your family and take photos in your yard!!!!! Hope to see you all again!
