Up here in Iceland for some shooting and had a spectacular display of the lights last night. Anyone see them in their part of the world? Made some photos, but not sure they were bright enough for my exposures. We´ll see. Getting some incredible weather up here.. better than back in Michigan!

It´s been a while since I´ve seen them. Hoping someone else got the treat too.

Bill

Too cloudy here, but they're not a rare sight. At least not that much rarer than clear skies, which happens about 50 days per year...

I would see them in Mid northern and northern Michigan pretty regularly. One year during a canoe outing I saw an amazing curtain of green blue lights cover the better part of the northern third of the sky. It was on the little Manistee about 20 miles east of Lake Michigan. There were about 15 of us sitting in a field watching it in awe. I didn't take any pictures.

See them all the time up here in Thunder Bay. I haven't been able to capture them on film.

Finally, my chance to brag. Although I can hardly take credit for them. One of the best (if not the absolute best) places to see them is in my backyard in Fort Smith, NT, Canada. Well, actually they are a bit better a couple of km. from the town lights. They are actually better here than farther north (we are right on the 60th parallel). There are many cloud free nights as well. I may be one of the select few in town who have not photographed them.

Here's a shameless promotion: Dead Link Removed

Cheers,
Clarence

Hi Bill,

Please, if you could, the next time you're on an amazing beach, would you let some beach sand or pebbles run through your fingers and then say out loud , "Murray is coming one day".

I'd be forever grateful

Murray

Never here in BC - I'm too far South, but when I was in Edmonton I saw a bit of a show, and when I lived in N. Saskatchewan it was amazing.

Hello Clarence!

You are right! I have lived in Fort Smith (my dad, Gene lives there) and the Northern lights are amazing there! I'll be coming up there in July but sadly no lights. It would be great to say hello. Will you be in town? Tell my dad to visit apug once in awhile. I haven't seen him here in a long time. I guess I'll have to post some new stuff as I have a decent scanner now.

You WILL get here Murray!!

They were out again last night. Being basically a city dweller, this is a real treat. Who would have thought I would have to come to Iceland for clear skies and great weather?! Not a cloud in the sky the past 2 days. Working my tail off and having a great time burning through roll after roll of film...

Thanks all...

Bill

Its been frustratingly cloudy here for the past two weeks. Plus this has been a low activity year in general as we are the bottom of the solar cycle (but started on the upswing). So I'm so glad to hear that someone is enjoying them

You can check out my website to see some of my captures (when the weather cooperates).

Clear skies,
Mike Klensch

Ah yes...Northern Lights, a fab bluegrass band! Check 'em out sometime.

That was the mushrooms kicking in.
