Hi,

I currently have 360mm bellows on a 450mm rail. To get this to 600mm (my minimum aim for 1:1 with my 300mm lens) of bellows or more, will I need the AX 400 auxiliary or a longer bellows?

Thank you

Better if you use the auxiliary standard (or an additional regular standard), with additional belows.

For a 600mm 4x5 extension with a longuer belows it will happen that those bellows would be very extenteded at 600mm to the point that they would work neraly like a tunnel with flat walls. In these conditions you have more flare because a light ray may reach film with a single reflexion.

Bellows should not be too much compresed and not too much extended, to control flare better.

For the studio, instead purchasing an AX 400 you may purchase a regular standard, Today it can be cheaper an it contains spares. For the field the AX may be more convenient.
