As far as I understand it, nonrapid fixers contain sodium instead of ammonium thio. Is Kodak fixer (powdered) the only readily available commercial nonrapid fixer (in the U.S.)?

Sam

The only other product that comes to mind is Ilford's Ilfofix II. As you will know, supply of this is problematic at the moment.

Calumet sells Zone VI powdered fix "F-6" formula, it has less hardener in it.
Also NACCO sells a powder like Kodak, and Freestyle has a powder fix.
So fret not, all is not lost !.

Any powdered fix is non-rapid since Amoniumthiosulfat is ill-suited to use in powders. There are many commercial products still available but its really just as easy to just get some Natriumthiosulfat (Sodium Thiosulfate) and fix your own.

Search apug for Ole's fixer. Basically sodium thiosulphate and a little sodium sulphite to prolong its capacity are all you need. A bit of ammonium chloride or ammonium sulphate will make it like a rapid fixer to some degree. These chemicals are relatively inexpensive. The one you need the most of is the sodium thiosulphate and it's not expensive in 25kg bags.
