No images on developed film (complete darkness)

Hi, just today a guy I bring my photos to for scanning asked me if I could develop a pair of films for him.

One turned out normal and the another one is complete darkness (or transparency on the negative), I don't know what I could have done wrong. I think the guy shooting didn't shoot right, or he brought the wrong (unshot) film for development. The start of the film, the piece which is exposed to the light when you open the box and put the film on it is the only part that has emulsion left. So I'm thinking if it was my fault, that part should have disappeared too?

Any thoughts, I'll just go there. I'm a bit uneasy, but I think it really isn't my fault

If the leader is exposed and the edge numbers are showing it's almost certainly the shooters fault. I've had partial blank rolls when I've left the lens cap on with a rangefinder camera. Just one possible problem.

It could of course also be a broken shutter, severe underexposure, or they just rewound the film before shooting any pictures (assuming 35mm).

Nitpicking a bit: the emulsion is there, alright. It's just that only the leader has a significant amount of developed silver on it. We generally call the gelatin coating the 'emulsion', and it remains in situ after processing.

I agree with @L Gebhardt that the cause of the problem is not in the development/processing. If that's the only part you were responsible for, then the only thing that's absolutely certain is that this is not your fault

I just brought the films to the shop, he didn't blink an eye, just said it happens occasionally and that the numbers are on the perforation. So no worries.

The fact that one film developed normally rules out using fixer instead of developer. I would consider this the photographer's problem/error.

I did mix Rodinal in a separate container and disposed of it later and my fixer bottle is full as I've returned it inside. So no...

But you got me checking once more
