anyone happen to know of any pro labs left in Alberta that will process Neg sheet film (neither ABL in Calgary nor Carousel in Edmonton does anymore)

Or barring that, any in BC that still do a good job

this is kinda depressing....

Vistek sends the stuff out to Ed's Photo up in Spruce Cliff in sw, you might want to take it directly there.

If you have the volume to justify any additional equipment you might need why not just do it yourself? I'll bet you'll waste more time sending the film out then running a batch.

BTW Vistek not only sends their stuff to Ed, they double the price too. Ed charges $4 for 1 or 2 sheets and $3/sh for any amount over 3 sheets. I would give up photography first before I dealt with Vistek again.

they list $5.00 for E41 and $8.00! (sheesh...) for E6 4x5

might give em a try - wonder if they do 8x10?

G'day from Australia. I encountered a similar problem here in Melbourne. I finished up spending AU$600 on equipment (JOBO CPE-2 processor second hand, 0.01g jewellery scales from eBay, pH meter from an electrical shop, film changing bag) and ordering chemicals from Canada. I have started C-41 developing my own 5x4 negatives. I get a better result than from the one remaining local lab. and it costs AU$0.47 a sheet instead of AU$5.00 a sheet. No darkroom required and it's not rocket science, if you're careful an do a couple of rehearsals tou will find that it's quite easy.

dont despair

it sure is a drag with abl labs in calgary discontinuing c41 a couple of months ago and carousel in edmonton dropping 4x5+ last week but there are options. eds photo service in calgary is great.....heard that option photo in edmonton is doing large format c41...I think abl in calgary still does E6 in 4x5 .....vistek calgary has a great e6 line and charges $3.99 a sheet for 4x5/ sends out c41

but the best big lab in western canada, www.abcphoto.com is still going strong and while a big digital prescence, it still processes up to 8x10 c41 at very reasonable prices. i can send my 617 negs there for big panos. they have lightjet and just about everything else including those wedding proofs and reprints.....prices just went up and they are still fantastic. call wendy on their 800 number and she will send a pro price list.
so dont despair, harder to get the processing but who wants to be a pixelographer? i spent yesterday at the mt edith cavell glacier shooting 4x5 colour negs with an ebony while my buddy shot tmax on his toyo 45A and it doesn't get much better than that.

yeah - we put about 800 sheets through Carousel only three weeks ago - guess they won't be getting anymore of that business...

I've heard mixed reports about Ed's C41 line - so we'll see.

heard that option photo in edmonton is doing large format c41 Didnt they buy out colorfast? I thought they were basically closing down colorfasts operation and everything was going to montreal?

ABC was on my list - used to use them for some stuff when I lived in Yellowknife

oh well....
