No blacks, pixelated photo

I am using VueScan and 9000f and I can't get consistent results and the main problem is that I get photos like this one. Anyone knows what I did wrong?

If I click on the image the screen is blacked out with nothing to be seen...

Likewise. However as an interim reply can I ask what setting did you use to scan the image? I know some sanners can have a 'black and white' scan which gives only black and white, not a greyscale and coupled with the reolution being too low may just give the results you are getting.
