I think that a yellow-green filter does a good job of lightening foliage on trees so works well if you need to create a difference between, say the brown of the trunks and the leaves or the green of the leaves and another colour close to the green that on b&w film will not be different enough

It also has some effect on helping to show clouds in the sky against the blue

Try to find some videos demonstrating what difference a yellow-green makes to a scene. Will it be worth getting a yellow-green? Well that is something that really only you can decide

Ansal Adams used the yellow green, green filter, more often I think than a yellow as a yellow or orange darkens foliage. Downside is additional loss of film speed. I use a green quit often, lighten cactus up, a more natural look than a yellow filter.

Jens' examples show that for differentiating vegetation (here the bushes) a yellow-green filter even may be counterproductive. So, it depends. In case of doubt exposures with varying filters should be done on same subject.

Interesting question. I use a yellow-green quite often and wish I could find a Bay 60 version for my Hasselblad. Here are two examples. I think it helps make green foliage shimmer or glow.

The first scene is a 4x5 Tri-X frame taken through 135mm Xenar lens and a Leitz GGr filter.
The second (from the Vicksburg National Military Park) is a Panatomic-X frame through a Bay II B+W yellow-green filter.

Here is another example of a scene with a yellow-green filter, this time with Tri-X 400 film via an old (silver body) 250mm Sonnar lens. I waited for the few seconds that the sun broke through the clouds and lit the old railroad embankment.

I have an X0 I used for my Mamiya TLRs, plus some old zeiss filters that are Y-G. X0 (and the Zeiss filters) are pretty weak compared to a med Y for sky, etc., but i think the advantage is it might be good for darkening some skin tones while giving some effect to the sky. X1 or darker Y-G may be better for sky.

I think my first post assumed that the OP was interested in its effects on green foliage compared to other filters such as the yellows etc butthere was an assumption built into my reply

Often and as is the case here, my reply should start with a question. In this case the question being: What situations are you thinking of using a yellow-green and what effect are you looking to get on that scene?
