Me neither. But I really wish that Ford would issue a recall on the 1913 Model T. They should have known there was going to be a problem with that design!

Busted

I had a Rolleiflex from 1957 to 1972 and goldern it, it busted on me after only 15 years. I got me a Yashicamat in 1975 and it is still working fine after 45 years. Do ya think I should sue them Rollei folks?

I've owned 2, used them heavily, never issue #1, except when I put my thumb through the shutter.

Will Nikon recall my N-75?

If Nikon recalls the F-100 and N-75 then I will not be able to shoot black & white and color film! What will I do? We will all be killed!

I haven't seen a camera back that isn't breakable.... I don't see F100 backs any different from all other camera in its price class. I had 4 and still have 3. No issues other than sticky rubber.

Instead of recalling, Nikon is de-supporting it come end of July this year. How do I know? I asked....

"I believe the service period for the F100 ends July, 2015. Authorized Nikon repair facilities will no longer repair at that time.
Parts are only available as long as supplies last, however only parts offered on our Parts Store are available for sale in the US region"

How can I get the sticky rubber for my Nikon F-100 back? Can it be applied to the front of the camera?

I've had this problem (solved w/Velcro), and have read a lot this happening on various photo forums. Do you guys have your heads up yer ass? Good luck trying to find a replacement back--the F100s I've seen that are sold for parts all have their backs missing--that should tell you something).

I don't think they have their heads up their ass just because they haven't had the problem you have. It may be fairly common, I don't know, but you will in the nature of things read a lot more about people having a problem than from all the people who don't.

There's another thread here where someone complained about bad results and not being able to load the reels for his Jobo. I love the results from mine and find the reels the easiest to load of all I've tried. Not every product suits every person.

I presently own about 6 Nikon film bodies and have bought and sold about another 3-4 through the years. While admittedly I have not exactly gone out of my way to watch for this the F100 has been on my "maybe own some day" list. This is the first I've ever heard of this issue.

It could be a common problem or it could be an Operator Assisted Failure [OAF] as in the OAF did this or the OAF did that. Which one, I wonder?

Dunno, I dont have a F100 but I have had three N80 backs lose latch tabs. Once was a pretty bad drop, broke the battery latch as well. 2nd time one of the tabs just popped off, no abuse
It would be nice if they just made a backs available for $30 for f100 and $20 for the N80 since they were some of the last bodies made.

Actually it's probably just a case of confirmation bias. Someone has an F100 with a broken back and goes googling for F100 back issues and, lo and behold, finds them. Happens to find bodies for sale with broken backs and then, bias confirmed, quits looking before finding all the other ones for sale without broken backs.

Thanks, Richard, but my security system won't let me open those ebay sites. BTW, I've had Nikons since 1966--F, F2, F3, FM, FM2, FG, FG20, N2000, Nikkormat FTN, N90s. Now I have 2 NIB N80s & a NIB N75--I hope those backs don't fail. Plus my crippled F100. And a Contax G1 & G2. I've also had 2 new M4s, 2 used M3s, & a Leica screwmount. Plus Mamiya TLR, 645, Mamiya 6, & RB. I don't appreciate being called an idiot! The back latches on my F100 broke off, and that never happened w/any prior Nikon!

I am afraid chip that can happen with the F80 as well. There's some people that happened. And I'm sure it will happen to the F75 as well. Why?
Because they all have plastic tabs.
The same goes for any other SLR with backs made entirely of plastic. They can brake. I've seen EOS and others with the same.
It isn't exactly a manufacturer problem. It is more one of "planned obsolescence".

About the F100, it seems the first batch came with a plastic rewind fork. People complained and Nikon change it to a metal fork. I'm not sure if they did the same for the backs.
But, if it is only the back tabs that are broken, you can easily exchange it for another back or a data back. The backs on the F100 are user replaceable, not so with the F80.

The F90 series had and has a problem with sticky backs, easily solved by stripping the rubber. Not an elegant solution, but a working one.

Nikon should issue a recall on F100 backs!
