I've always had trouble getting my preview-scan to accurately represent the final scan, especially for color.

I'm curious to know if other Nikon Scan (4) users have found a solution to this or similar issues?

I'm running Mac OSX 10.6.8 on 2011 MacBookPro8,2 with a (recently) Xrite color calibrated monitor with a Nikon Coolscan 9000 ED.

And I've used Nikon Scan 4 for quite a while. So, I'm pretty comfortable with the software and like to think I know its ins-and-outs pretty well. But this problems has always alludes me.

Also, I know I ought to bite-the-bullet and just switch to VueScan or Silver Fast, but I genuinely enjoy using Nikon Scan 4. And I've found 3rd-party scanning software either too frustrating or the learning curve too steep.

Here's some screenshots of a recent dramatic color matching/balancing problem. The negative was expired 35mm Fuji Superia 400, under-exposed by maybe a stop.

I've not experienced this problem and use Nikon Scan 4 for a fair amount of color negative scanning with a Coolscan 8000. You don't mention the color management settings that you are using within Nikon Scan - maybe something there needs to be tweaked.
