Just a technical note really. Due to my old Mac Book Pro failing earlier this year I've reverted to scanning with the Nikon Scan 4 software running on a Power Book G4 (10.4 Tiger OS) - 1GB ram. Today I experimented with running the Nikon software on an older mac mini (with internal FW port) and found no speed difference - 2GB ram - 10.6.8 OS.

I guess as the NS4 software is Power PC the emulation on a relatively low powered mac mini takes up substantial resources. VueScan on the mini works fine, although rather slow compared to my now deceased 2010 MBP with a SSD storage.
