Nikon S2 can't open back

Ok, just got a S2 sold as is because the back won't open. The release catch has doesn't have any up and down play which might indicate that the connecting pin could be loose. Catch turns like it's grasping but just won't release to slide the back off. Any ideas on how to get it open.
