Recently I purchased a Nikon S2 with black dials and a 35mm f/2.5 lens--came as a kit. Beautiful camera. The camera definitely needs a CLA and I'm thinking of sending it to Kanto in Japan, but would like to know of any other repair shops in the US that might cost less but do a great job. Kanto estimate quote ~$415-515 for repair, not including shipping back to me which they say will be expensive. I didn't enquire about the lens. They are about 3-4 months out before repair will be started.

The lens is super clean and focus is smooth. The problem is the aperture blades. They are stuck so that you can't turn the aperture ring to f/2.5. Only turns from f/4 to f/22. Who would you trust with this lens?

DAG is my one and only repair guy but he is out of the question for now. He told me maybe this summer he will work on a non-Leica camera. He's swamped because Leica NJ is closed. If I wait until summer ( provided he takes the camera then ) I still have to wait the additional 6-8 weeks. I was hoping to have it by summer.

I got my S3 & lens CLA’d at Nippon Photo Clinic in NYC a couple of years ago. They’re on the expensive side but they do great work. I suspect they’d be in line with, or a bit cheaper than, Kanto but it’s best just to ask.

Zacks Camera Repair - a site sponsor - repaired my Leica M5 that had light leaks through the RF window. The other big name repair doods tried but failed. Zacks came through. He also was much cheaper..

Point being, if he can repair an M5 that no-one else can, CLA-ing an S2 is a cake walk for him.

Thanks everyone. Good to hear about Zack's fixing the light leak in the M5.

Looks like Kanto is closing shop due to Covid restrictions.

That saved you a lot of money! Zacks would be less than half that..

One thing, the S2 came with a 35mm lens? A little unusual as it has a 50mm finder. And a glorious one at that.
I keep thinking about selling my perfect S2, then pick it up and the feeling fades!

Yes, the S2 came with the 35mm lens. I bought it over at RFF. I ended up sending it to Zach’s after a brief chat.
