Cleaning out the old camera bag and I have too many 50mm lenses! The one for sale here is a Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.8 AI-S lens, the late model. Keep in mind, this is not the "E-Series," which are generally more cheaply made. The difference between the late and early model is that the late model has a drastically shorter profile.

This is a great, extremely lightweight lens, that produces excellent image quality, contrast, and is super sharp. Glass is in perfect condition; aperature clicks in nicely at all settings and the blades are nice and snappy; focus is smooth. Pretty much a perfect lens!

Comes with both rear and front caps. Looking to get $100. Price includes shipping to the CONUS.

Another important difference is that this late model has no rabbit ears to allow coupling to pre-AI meters, such as the Nikon DP-1 metered prism that came as standard on early Nikon F2 bodies.

Best of luck with your sale.

Ah, Thanks for the clarification Ken! I used it on an FM2 which utilizes the AI coupling. Honestly never notice the lack of rabbit ears!

some repair shops will still have spare rabbits ears.

This late model is actually identical to the Series E, except that it has multicoating. The Series E is only single coated. Still, it's a good lens.

Good luck with the sale!

One other, perhaps minor difference is minimum focus distance.

All Series E and those pancake Nikkors with S/N above 4000000 focus to 0.6 meter/2 feet, while pancake Nikkors with 1xxxxxx and 2xxxxxx S/N focus to 0.45 meter/1.5 feet.

Thanks and regards,
Vince

Good deal! I had this same lens with my Nikkormat FT3, and it was sharper than my pre-ai 50mm f/1.4

Both my early E (black poly carbonate) and later E (pretty aluminium) have the green multi coated sheen, Nikon admit(ted) as much as well.

The late E is different from the AIS pancake nikkor in many ways externally donno about the internals. eg the aperture ring on the E is so narrow to make fitting rabbits ears difficult.

80 USD is a sharp price...
