Title, basically. Started after I connected a Fujifilm EF-X8 flash. Also doesn`t detect the aperture on a Nikkor 1.8/50. Is there anything I can do or is it toast?

First aid would be to remove the batteries from the camera, wait a few minutes and then reinsert them. This means a reset for the electronics.

Does the camera work correctly without flash?

If the flash is not compatible with the electronics, an IC in the camera could have become defective, for example due to overvoltage.

Do you see any damage to the hot shoe?

Already tried removing batteries, didn`t help. I removed the flash immediately after I saw that camera stopped working.

No visible damage, and it`s a pretty new flash, picrelated

From now on you need a crystal ball 🔮

You could also try checking all functions of the camera to see if anything else works. Maybe this way the error can be narrowed down. If that doesn't help, at least I have no idea anymore.

Unfortunately repairing a camera of this generation is no longer for hobbyists due to the highly integrated electronics.

But maybe other colleagues here have a solution?

I researched, the flash has several contacts for the hot shoe. Definitely more contacts than this Nikon has. There could have been incorrect contact here, e.g. two flash contacts on just one contact on the camera. Is this flash compatible?

Well, it`s really dumb but I kinda thought "what if"
99.9% that it`s incompatible, it draws current from camera to work

rewind and beeper works heh

The blinking Matrix Metering icon means that you have a non-CPU lens (a manual focus lens) attached. This is on page 43 of the manual, in the matrix metering section. The N8008 only can use certain metering modes with a non-CPU lens. Set the exposure mode to Manual and try again.

Maybe it helps to leave the camera without batteries for a long time. Electronics are a great thing, but when they become stubborn it's annoying 🥺

It`s flashing while in manual. When I connect a CPU lens, it stops flashing, but shows F - - and doesn`t autofocus and fire, shutter speed selection doesn`t work too

Are the lens contacts at the top inside of the mirror box clean, are there any damages?

Everything is clean, yes. Viewfinder screen light also turns on even when pointed at a light source. So it looks like I`ve just blinded my camera

Please correct this
I forget all the details but I think vivitar came out with the the 285hv because The 283 would fry the circuitry of a nikon FA. If it was put on the camera "live", even if you thought if was fully spent and off it could do damage when removing it.
Be careful with flashes there is a safe-sync (wein) device.
I'd like to put an sb21 on a D3 or a 285hv but I am reluctant to without such a device.
Hope your 8008 is ok

The flash is quite new and I don't think it has high voltage however it's very incompatible and it could short something out.

N8008's without lenses are pretty cheap to replace. Quite a buy.

Nope. Dead, unless there's a secret reset button

Left it out overnight, still dead. I'll try to get it fixed but if it will require to sacrifice a donor-rip.

I posted a reference I found to a factory reset button, look at the link see if it makes any sense?

The blinking matrix metering icon and the "F--" error both are signs of a failure to electronically connect to the lens with CPU (I think the F-- is related to flash with non-CPU lens). It is possible that the cause is some deeper electronic upset.

The N8008, like most AF Nikons, has a component to protect against high flash sync voltages. However, I don't know if all of the other flash contacts besides the sync contact are protected. The Fujifilm flash is fairly new, for electronic cameras, and from a major manufacturer so I doubt it uses a high sync voltage. But it has a different pin layout, so it might short some of the Nikon's contacts together. In general, it is wise to (1) don't power up a flash before sliding it onto the shoe. Only turn it on after seating it properly. (2) Don't mix and match flashes/cameras with extra TTL contact pins unless you insulate the extra pins from each other. Even if you don't do any damage, it is possible that the camera/flash won't work because the ready signals will be confused.

Not to beat a dead horse, but I looked up the Fuji EF-X8 flash and it is designed to draw power from the camera battery. There's no way it would have worked on a camera other than the Fuji X-series cameras it was designed for.
