Nikon N75 Troubleshooting inquiry.

Hey guys,

Recently started using my n75 again.

I am noticing 2 pretty significant scratches on my film now that run the length of the roll and are perfectly parallel to each other.

I realize I need to take this thing to get looked at, but do you think its a problem with the pressure plate?

Second question, Can the pressure plate be removed?

1) see what side of the film the scratches are on, base or emulsion. If emulsion side, it's not the pressure plate.
2) inspect pressure plate and rollers for imperfections.
3) could also be in the felt trap on the film cartridge and may not recur.
4) not sure, but likely Nikon would replace the whole door if plate was scratched.
5) if it were mine, I'd advance a fresh roll through it to see if I could duplicate it.

it could also be a problem at the processing end. I had about 5 rolls from different cameras come back all scratched and badly developed.
But yes, inspect the inside of the camera. Use a can of compressed air if need be. There should not be an hint of dirt in a camera that new, but its possible.

Unless it chronically scratched film in the past, I'd suspect the lab first. Start there. Try another roll at another lab. You'd probably be able to replace the door and/or pressure plate from a donor camera for less money than a "fix." Doubtful Nikon would have a pressure plate(most detach) unless shared with a newer model. N75s don't go for much $ now.

Check that the camera rollers are clean.

If you developed it yourself, did you squeezed it too hard with your fingers after the photo-flo?
