I am in the preliminary stages of coming up with a metal latch repair kit for the N6006/N4004. I do know there is a nice plastic latch repair kit available but I am thinking about doing one out of metal for those who want a little more confidence and better long term performance. I also am planning on doing a repair kit for the N65 and N75 as currently there is none on the market and I have had several people message me asking for one.

I am leaning towards having these made of stainless like my F100 kit so the end user will not have to worry about corrosion or much of anything down the road. Since these are smaller then the F100 latch it should keep the cost down. Hoping to have these for sell close to 20 USD.

I am still in the early design phase and have a couple of cameras to get dimensions on coming. I will update this thread as I develop these. My target is late 2024 or early 2025 for both.

I have an N6006 and haven't noticed anything wrong with the latch. Should I be checking something specifically

The latch hook on the door is a common failure mode. The plastic hook can break off. Nikon used to make a metal replacement hook and they issued a service bulletin for it.

Excellent news, please keep us updated. All these models are generally excellent performers, and it would be simply tragic if they could not be used anymore just because these simple plastic latches fail.
I have a F80 here with that problem, and I want to order your F80 kit when you have updated it to the new version (new metal).

Best regards,
Henning

Same here, I have a few F80(s) lying around, although the latches are still good, but I would replace them sooner or later (peace of mind), regarding the glue used, what would you recommend ? I try not to use epoxy, as the more I googled it the more I am confused about bonding plastic to metal. I prefer to use super glue , any brand suggestion ? Thanks.

Superglue worked for me. My original first generation latch is still holding after 2 years. I used Loctite Super Gel since the gel type super glues are not runny at all and make less of a mess.

A good 2 part epoxy would be the absolute best choice for long term performance but you would need to clamp it for 24 hours.
