My seaches indicate that this document is not available anywhere on the internet. It is referenced in the MD-12 service manual (see below).

Does anyone have a PDF copy to share, or know where it is on the internet?

What information do you need? A while ago I took apart an MD-11 and repaired it - the ground wire had come loose from the PCB. I took a few photos that I intended to post at some point, so I could post those.

To get into it, you separate the lower part (bottom and sides) from the upper grip part and the upper plate that makes contact with the body. The screws holding them together are distributed around the upper area of the sides, and to access them you peel down the leatherette from the top, except for two pesky ones, at the front curved area above the remote release socket and around the side of the curved area. To access those you need to peel up the leatherette on the front curved area from the bottom.

Thanks very much for the reply and information!

At this point, I'm not too sure what information I need, if any, now that you have confirmed how to get into the drive. I'm fiddling with a MD-12 that does a couple of bad behaviors: machine-guns on "S" and locks up itself and/or the camera at the end of it's weird cycle. The MD-12 manual seems to indicate either the S-C switch (in the handle) and/or the phase switch (on the motor board, I think) as causes. So I was thinking of opening it up and spraying some contact cleaner on both to see if it would behave better. Mostly I was looking for details on how to open it up, and kept seeing references to the MD-11 manual.

So I think I'm more curious about what fundemental information might be in the MD-11 manual and documented via reference in the MD-12 manual.

I don't have any specific insight into your problem but cleaning the switches seems like a good idea. IMO, most electronic problems are due to dirty switches or connectors, or failed connections, rather than actual component failures.

Here are some photos from when I disassembled the MD-11. I didn't indicate every single case screw, as you work around under the leatherette you will find them all. When you get all of the screws out the halves should separate without difficulty (IOW if it's refusing to come apart, there is probably another screw to remove). However, one or two of the screws you will see are actually into a sub part and may not need to come out. When the two pieces come apart, they are still connected by the wires from the top to the remote jack, so don't break those.
