Hello All,

I have a Nikon 50/1.4 lens that needs some lubrication of the focus ring; feels and sounds dry when I twist it. Does anyone know of a good, reputable repair person in the USA that can do this work? I don't want someone who says they can, and then screws up my lens. If you have direct experience with someone you know of that does this sort of thing and have been happy with their work/service, please post here.

I know we have soverf2repair in the UK and that he does this very kind of work, but I'd rather not send my lens across the pond if I don't have to.

Thank you for any help provided.

Kind regards,
Alan

I've had a couple of lenses done by Zack's Camera Repair in Providence, RI. Michael is a great guy and an APUG supporter.

I used to recommend Gus but I don't know if he still does lens service..

Stephen Gandy of Cameraquest is another option...

Authorized Photo Service in Morton Grove, IL specializes in Nikon repairs and has done very nice work for me.

I had a 35mm F2.8 AIS lens that had a dry helicoid, and they did a CLA on it for $65 and made it like new. This was two or three years ago, so I don't know about their pricing now, but I thought the price was very reasonable.
