Dropped my FM2 from a relatively short distance, perhaps a foot at the most, onto a table...enough of a distance to make my nerves stand on end...

landed on its back...

light meter light no longer visable in viewfinder...everything else appears to be in working order...

What sort of repair charge am I looking at...

damn, right before my trip to Thailand...grrr...

to complicate issues, I live in Korea and have a marginal take on the language...but I suppose that is of no cocern to this board.

help?

First, does the battery check function work? If not, check the battery and the contacts in the battery compartment. Eliminate the simple/easy/inexpensive first.

I don't know about the cost of repairs in Korea. Here in the US, my guess is that you'd be looking at $60-125. My had my Nikon FM2 repaired (meter not working) and CLAed by Gary's Camera in Chicago (http://www.garryscamera.com/) for about $55 a few years ago.

Another option

I've had good luck with KEH repair service. They are substantially more expensive than Garry's (about $125 each), but have done excellent, quick work for me, actually doing more repairs/part replacement than asked for or quoted for no extra charge. Turn-around time on two bodies, less than a week.

Good luck. I think these beautiful manual cameras are well worth a little TLC after so many years of service.

Anam Optics in Korea made/assembled FM2 bodies. I suspect knowledge of the FM line and its repair isn't all that scarce. Nikon Korea should be able to help locate a service shop if they're unwilling to fix it. Friends should be able to help find out thru dealers where stuff gets fixed.
