I was wondering if it is possible to swap Fm2 mount with FM mount to get access to pre ai lenses?
I know you can get pre ai lenses modified but that is not my point.

anyone ever done this?
I'm also wondering if it is possible for Fm3a and other bodies like FE2 etc.

thanks

Meter coupling? Aperture indexing?

Get a Nikkormat FTn or FT2.

The aperture indexing is not really part of the mount. Cameras like the F3 and a few others have a folding tab for engaging the AI slot on the lens and it can be folded out of the way for mounting non-AI lenses. It's possible, but not very likely I'd expect, that the lever that carries the tab is interchangeable between models. But most 35mm bodies are pretty cheap nowadays, you could buy a couple and try out a parts mix and match without risking much money (and without risking your "good" body).

I'd find a junker FM2 and an FE to try doing the swap between. The FM actually uses a gear-based drivetrain between the AI coupling and the FRE underneath the shutter speed dial. The FE, however, does have a string, like the FM2 and the F3, etc.
