Hello everyone,
I’m looking for some advice on a Nikon FM that has been unused for over 10 years. I purchased the camera second-hand.
After starting to use it, I noticed a problem with the film advance and shutter. When I advance the film and press the shutter, the mirror goes up and stays stuck, and the camera does not reset properly.
I removed the bottom plate to take a look (no further disassembly). I am attaching a video (as a zip file) showing the bottom of the camera while I try to advance the film and press the shutter. I don’t fully understand the mechanics, but I noticed that one mechanism looks different compared to a Nikon FM repair video I watched on YouTube (see 2:15). This makes me think it might be related.
Specifically, it appears that when I advance the film, the brass piece on the bottom does not contact the circular part, unlike what is shown in the repair video.
Is there anything I can reasonably try to fix at home? Where I live, professional repair of analog cameras is extremely expensive, and I can’t afford it. In fact, I paid so little for this camera that I’m fairly sure the diagnostic fee alone would cost more than the camera itself.
Cheers,
