People find new ways for fun all the time. It looks like maybe he used a phone camera sensor.
Nice. Looks like they used a beer can opener and screwdrivers to get in there. Why they would do it is the big question, but there's no accounting for things like this.
Hey,
Gotta appreciate creativity, dedication & ingenuity.
Sure, it's 'easy' to go out and buy something...
My parents & grandparents lived through the Great Depression....the saying of the day was " Make do, or do without."
Old worn-out Model T's were turned into power units for sawmills...'coffee' was made from chicory, holes in the bottom of shoes were patched with cardboard.
Adapt & overcome.
Try it, it might just work!
Absolutely Ansel, I'm all for someone who is working w/ what you got. There's no stopping a person who just picks up what's available and makes it work. I still can't figure out why they went about trying to reinvent the wheel, but you never know what results you'll get until you try it. Now they know.
I have seen a couple of these conversions in the past. Until someone designs one with a full size sensor, it will not succeed. Very small portion of the image circle is being recorded. Everything is a close focus/macro shot.
