Anyone ever fixed this?
I just received a Nikon FG, was fairly cheap because of this issue but is otherwise in pretty good condition. I haven't opened it up yet, but I can see through the viewfinder that there's a mask with circular holes that the LEDs shine through. If you look at the meter off-centre, basically so that the meter is all you can see, you can see there's a fair bit more light coming from the LEDs than is making it through the mask. So I'm wondering if it could just be an alignment or obstruction issue rather than voltage or LED condition. Obviously can't tell for sure until I've opened it, but wanted to ask for wisdom first, and I haven't found a repair manual yet.
Batteries are fresh enough to drive the automatic exposure in A/P modes, so I'm pretty sure it's not the battery or the contacts. And I don't think it's LED condition because the dimness is uniform across the LED array - I'd be surprised if degradation was so uniform.
