My Nikon FG arrived today but it seems to be "stuck"....like the mirrors locked up or something. I can't see though the viewfinder. I can't advance the film and when I press the shutter nothing happens. I replaced the battery (and tested it) so I don't think that's it. The lens comes seats and comes off properly. Thoughts? My gut feel is it isn't broken but something, most likely the mirror is "stuck" or locked up.
Thanks!

Set the dial to M90 or B if it will release the mirror in the mechanical mode. If the camera advances and shoots then it is battery or electrical. If it doesn't work even then you have a mechanical issue.

Years ago I had one that had bad mirror foam thatkept the mirror up all the time.Set to m90 as the previous poster suggests,if the mirror releases check the foam.

Good thing! A capable little camera, though you get the impression that the mirror is slow to swing up when you trip the shutter. Very different from the FM/FE.

One thing to remember about the FG is that if you are just playing around with it, the meter will not indicate properly until the frame counter is on 1. Nothing to do with the original problem you had but something to bear in mind.

Yes, that's faked me out also. But the FE/FE2 does the same sort of thing -- the meter doesn't work until you've wound to frame 1.

Tnx Les...I found one (actually at orphanCameras.com) and it has indeed been invaluable.
