I picked up a Nikon FE. the shutter speed dial is not properly attached.
There are 3 screws around the side, but they dont seem to have anything to bite into. Anyone have a pic of the assembly?

If the screws are removed or loosened doesn't the ring just lift off the shutter speed stack?

Yes, the dial lifts off when the 3 screws are loosened.

But my problem is not removing it, I want to reassemble it correctly.
Right now the 3 screws have nothing on the other side to anchor them into. So I am wondering if I am missing a part.

A memory is a terrible thing to lose. But anyway there weren't any other parts involved, the set screws just tighten to the stack.
I want to say there's a groove the screws fit, but check the first sentence.
