The mirror bumper thingy on one of my Nikons dis-integrated...It seems like I ought to be able to replace it myself -no?

Where is a good place to get the material?

Jon Goodman sells a foam kit with instructions for most cameras. These are mainly for the light seals but can also be used for the mirror damper foam. I believe he is a member here and you can reach him at
Jon_Goodman@ yahoo.com He is also on Ebay using the name Interslice.

I have replaced the light seals and mirror foam for many cameras with his kit.

If you can't get any I can post some to you. At work we have black self adhesive foam about 1mm thick on rolls 2 metres wide.

Micro-tools sells mirror foam.

It comes in sheets and you cut-to-fit for the camera you are using. I've replaced mirror foam on several 35mm cameras over the years, everything from Nikon Fs' to Canon F-1s'. An easy job.

As for cleaning the mirror, use some lens cleaner, some lens tissue and some care.

You can also find a guy on ebay selling kits for re-foaming cameras. Recommended.

Thanks for all the suggestions folks...I've discovered another issue with this body so, off to the repair guys it goes...
