Hi.

I just picked up a pretty good condition FE locally and besides the normal mirror foam issue I have a quick question.

I noticed that when I push in the Exposure Lock lever in Auto mode that the meter continues to move as I recompose. Is this normal?

thanks,
Sean

Hi,

Yes, this is absolutely normal and was confirmed by Nikon back in the late 1970s. It seemed a bit weird to many users (and to the specialized press). But to me it is quite logical because the needle that's moving when pressing that button gives you an idea of how many stops up or down you're actually compensating.
Anyone agrees with this?

This was "corrected" on the FE2.

Yes, I agree, a very useful feature.

I just thought I'd say, but it's probably obvious by now, but a simple test would be to set to f/22, point at shadow area and fire -- listening to the click....clack of the shutter, then locking focus, recomposing on a lamp, and then firing again, with the same shutter speed.
