Hi folks,

So during one of my roll changes, I must have picked up some dirt or something that ended up scratching almost all of an entire film roll.
It goes through frames 1 and ends at frame 27... after 27 (on to 36) it's clean.
A few things to try to isolate the issue and why I think it's my F90x.
1) I developed three rolls in the same dev tank. This is the only roll showing scratches.
2) Strangely enough, I shot this roll (HP5) and then didn't develop it until later. I believe I put a roll of Ektar in just after this roll and it was OK.

SOOOOOO.... I'm wondering... how can I prevent this kind of stuff from happening? I'm glad this wasn't a wedding I was shooting or I would be in deep trouble (Nikon cameras have failed me in the past in very critical situations).

Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Is the scratched film a factory load, or a bulk loaded cassette?

You know what...I think it was a bulk load... And I probably scratched it in the process of bulk loading it.

Thanks, think I figured it out now.

OK, just so people are aware what happened, when I was bulk loading the film, there is a little door that opens and closes and allows me to roll the film (when door is open) or to cut it in open light (close the door to avoid exposure to the rest of the roll). I accidentally closed the door and scraped the film while I was trying to roll it into the canister.

My bad.

Don't do that, yo.

Maybe I didn't win first place for that but definitely made the highlight reel.

When I did bulk loading, a few times I did not open the light door fully and part of a roll got scratched. Scratched so much that the noise made me stop, throw out the first part of the film and reload the cassette with fresh unscratched film.
