Nikon F80 giving error

I'm trying to advance a roll of film past 9 exposures. To do this I put the lenscap on my lens, set the aperture to f22 and shutterspeed to the fastest (1/4000 if I'm not mistaken) in order to avoid any light going through and expose the already exposed frames.

The problem is I tried shooting a couple of frames but now I get an error and the framecounter stays at 1.

I tried switching the camera off an on, but the "err" text keeps flashing.

Any idea what is going on?

Are you sure the film has wound on? Easy to check if you have a dark bag.

Something that has crossed my mind aswell. Don't have a dark bag though. I'll have to check in my dark bathroom..

Edit: from what I've checked the film is wound on the opposite side of the canister.

I bought one recently "as-is" with a broken door to get a cheap lens. Like yours, it will load the film to exposure 1, but won't advance after that. I have a N8008 with the same issue, which I attribute to a defective winding mechanism. Try (carefully) unspooling the film from the take up reel and reloading. If it's really busted (like mine) I'd just buy another. There are plenty on eBay for $50 or less.

Yea, that is always an option...The funny thing is now after I opened the filmdoor, took another shot, the "err" dissapeared and it showed the shutterspeed and aperture again. an "E" appeared in the framecounter and took another shot...the camera sort of made a rewinding(?) sound and now it shows the framenumbers, shutterspeed and aperture...Seems to be working fine now. (the camera has been lying around for a couple of years without use though, so maybe that's it?).

Glad it's working. Maybe I'll try mine again. I was just going to tape the door shut and use it for backup.

I took you advice and looked the camera over with fresh eyes. The solution was obvious once I looked carefully: it was set for multiple exposures! Once I moved the switch to single it worked just fine. Now it’s time for a film test!

I read about an F100 owner who sometimes got "Err" messages on his camera. He said that sometimes there's a static build-up that can cause such messages and that by pressing the depth of field button several times in succession it dissipates the charge. Maybe that works on the N80/F80 too. Worth a try.
