My birthday is coming on next month(Apr 13). I am planning to buy this camera for cheap price and take good portrait pics in that week. If anyone planning to sell Nikon F5 camera. Please let me know. I saw my another friend tried to buy from eBay and faced lot of problems with getting that product returned( He bought F4), hence I decided not to buy from eBay.

Welcome to APUG!
I'm sure you can find manynice shops in the US of A that would sell you a F5.
The name of B&H rings a bell.
Google is your friend.

Do you intend to use the camera just for one week or is it that you want to be a bit more serious and take lots of pictures?
You want to take portraits. Do you have a nice lens for that?

Happy Birthday!

Sir,

I have a good tripod, F1.4 Nikon 50mm lens, Tamaron f2.8 zoom lens, three flash kit, beauty dish. Currently I am owning an Nikon D7200. I saw this camera on a park and it was mesmering. Later I bought a small film SLR and learnt some basic tips. Now I assume this will be a right time to use my long time wish Nikon F5. Since I shoot mostly on DSLR,even usage for a week will be more than enough for me. My main expectation is to create a good portrait of me and my friends on a get together. That will be a long lasting memory for us.

Any tip from you, I greatly appreciated. I am not planning to buy from eBay and most other sites have some kind of links only to eBay. Hence I am requesting this community for this help.

If you will not use it often - then nikon F5 is maybe too expensive/too heavy/over the top?
I want to say that you can consider cameras like F90, or F80 or F801s - all are great cameras; will produce equally good photos as F5, and cost almost noting, and they are easier/faster to find.

And welcome to APUG !

You need a Nikon F5 to shoot portraits? Really?

There's nothing wrong with the F5. It's a fantastic camera, even for portraits. The built in grip is nice because if you get an F100 + grip, it's smaller. I might be heavier, but that's not a bad thing when you want to balance something like the 80-200mm or other large lens.

Don't be afraid of ebay. I actually sold my F5 on there. Be afraid of the crappy sellers. Look for those with good feedback, listed return policy, and good communication. Ask the seller questions. Also pay with PayPal so you can dispute it if needed.

You could make Christopher's day: (there was a url link here which no longer exists)

I buy used camera's from KEH.com. Anyway I took a look and they have a Nikon F5 in EX condition for $339.00.. I do not follow that camera so I do not know if that is a good price or not. However in EX condition you could expect a nice camera ready to shoot.

I have been watching the site for a FM2n and they had one for $159.00 this morning so I purchased it.

You already have all you need for a bit of fun.
The only tip I have for you is to read some photography books from the 80s or 90s.
Your local library might have some basic books for beginners.
Then you can aspire to buy an F5.
And to use it all day, every day.
That's what a F5 was made for.

I have never owned or used the Nikon F5 but I have owned and used the Nikon F, F2, F3, and F4.

KEH.com has been a very reliable source for my pre-owned Nikon equipment.

I adore my F5 but can't really justify keeping it around anymore, not after I sold the rest of my Nikon kit to pay for other gear. I'll take some pictures tonight and make you an offer if you're still interested.

Hi, I do have an F5, perfect condition, you can have it for $250.00, hell I'll even throw in a 105mm 2.5 with a bit of coating damage on the rear element for an extra $15.00. Post is from Australia though. The exchange rate may make it more of a deal though. Let me know and I can send pics.

Hi,
Thanks for the offer, I got the camera from other user.

F5 on its way!

I have to admit I'm a little sorry to see it go. I've done some of my best with it, but as I said, I sold almost all of my Nikon glass to fund other projects. It's a shame to leave it around sitting idle, so now it's time for it to go and take beautiful pictures for someone else.
