Hi. I've purchased a pristine condition Nikon F5 and I'm falling in love with film photography again. I want to purchase a cover for the flash hot shoe to protect it but I'm not sure which is the best fit. The Nikon BS-1 looks very simple and I'm sure would fit but I have just come across the BS-2 and BS-3 which add some more protection to the top of the camera and cover the area completely. Does anyone know if the BS-2 or BS-3 will fit the F5? It doesn't show in the compatible camera bodies list (too old presumably) but I'm hoping someone has tried them.
Cheers!

The fancy rubber ones look like they extend to wrap the hotshoe, if you look at the top plate of the D5/D6 which they fit there is a lip in front of the shoe and the rest of the housing is flat around it. On the other hand the F5 hotshoe is in the recessed area of the rear of the top housing. So my guess is the new ones won't fit. I do have something on my F5 which looks like a BS-1 though most of those covers are a bit BS to be honest, unless you're in the pouring rain for hours the F5 should do just fine.

Hi, Enjoy your F5. Mine is also in pristine condition and is among my favorite cameras. To be honest, it didn't come with a cover, and until now it didn't cross my mind. I am however happy to have the PC and remote covers as they are so often missing.

Thanks for all of your replies. I will go ahead and order the BS-1 I think. Its a very minor addition definitely! I've owned a lot of cameras over the years but the F5 is the one that feels most comfortable in my hands. The weight, heft, grip and viewfinder are fabulous. I've had to buy a bigger camera bag though as it is very deep with the built in grip :D

When you become familiar with how it works the F5 transforms into an extension of your vision. Sometimes for me but still.............enjoy.

My f5 is minty but I still use it more than the others. It has the MF-25 back as well. Still learning that piece of work.

To protect it, from what? The F5 is a lethal weapon in most countries so a cover for this brick is an insult or BS nr.1
Happy shooting !

My Nikon Df came with hot shoe cover but not the F5 I think. I can't remember correctly. I never care for the cover so if I want a cover I would try the find the one that came with it to make it original otherwise I don't see it's useful.

The one thing I found that the hot shoe covers are good for are getting lost.
