I finally had a chance to check your question on my camera, and it appears that the MF-23 will NOT successfully auto-bracket in (M) manual mode.

It almost seems like it does, but watching the aperture closely confirmed that it didn't change. I set mine up to do 3 shots in 2-stop increments. Neither the shutter nor the aperture changed for any of the 3.

But really, you're better off choosing either (S) or (A) anyway and having the MF-23 vary either the aperture or shutter by the desired increment. If you want to take control "manually", just dial in whatever compensation you desire.

Hummm, thanks SM. Well I ordered one for about $100 so I'll try to make something work.

The goal here is to use my VR head and try to make extended range stitches using ATP 1.1/Spur. I will be using mlu and a remote.

My concern is if I let the camera set the shutter speed (obviousy wouldn't want to change the aperture) that when I move to the next series in the stitch, it will potentially be a completely different set of exposures? I mean, the camera will re-register everything after each sequence, no? What may have been a base shutter speed of 1/125 in the first sequence may start as 1/115 or such in the next sequence, no?

I'm trying to avoid touching the camera at all except to move it incrementally on the head at the appropriate time.

Am I thinking clearly?
