Nikon F4 or similar and Lenses with chip like Roknon

I bought a Nikon F100 6 months or so ago. It works, however I'm a little ho hum with the camera itself. This is a hobby so cameras are perhaps more of an emotional purchase and this one is just meh... However I did just buy a Rokinon 85 1.4, and it works with the F100 provided that I set the lens to F22 and use the camera dials to adjust the aperture.

If I wanted to move to say to an F4 to get a, IDK... more of a metal handcrafted sort of feeling from a camera, how would I control the aperture on a chipped MF lens with an F4? BTW I'm not worried about how well matrix metering may work from one camera to the next, I'm typically in manual mode with a hand held meter in most cases anyway. It would be nice if I can move the aperture on the lens and see the readout in camera, but I'm not sure that's possible. If I have to use the camera dials, I'd rather use on on a camera that just feels better in hand.

I have some chipped AI/AIS Nikkors. Use them with the F5,FM2n,F and digitals as well. Only issue is the AI lenses aperture response is not linear thus exposure is off when allowing the camera to set the aperture other than that they've been great.

A chipped lens without an aperture ring will be wide open on a F4.

The F4 does not have an aperture dial on the body, the aperture must be set on the lens. In Shutter priority the camera selects the aperture provided the aperture ring is set to the smallest aperture, in Program the camera selects both shutter and aperture, in aperture priority the lens aperture ring is set to the desired aperture and the camera selects the shutter speed. Its been a long time since I've used my F4 but I think it shows an error if a usable shutter speed is not available for the selected aperture.
I have not used a F5.

i have a bower 35mm chipped lens and use it on all my nikon bodies. It works great on the F4. use it just like any other MF lens. The chip does not make any difference on the F4, All lenses use the aperture ring. like mentioned above, If you want to use P or S mode, make sure to put the lens on F22 or whatever the smallest aperture is.

when I use it on my F100 or F5, i change the menu so I can use the aperture ring to change it, not the wheel drive thing. sometimes I will use the wheel if i really need an in between aperture. I really like that the chip allows me to use the lens on my tiny N80 which does not meter with any of my other MF lenses.
