I went looking at focusing screens. I came across the Type R screen (grid with split prism) does any one have any hand on eith this prism? and is it worth the extra money(currently ~50) or should I just get a Type E?
Thank you all in advance
FYI, I have one used the split prism(name=type will very with make and model of SLR)
It depends. What are your goals? I’ve used 3: K, P, and Tv. Tv had special usage, of course. The P was when I thought horizontal and vertical lines would be useful. They were but soon became distracting. The K screen really has been the right answer for me.

For landscape I found the diagonal split of the P screen somewhat worthwhile. It seemed to make focusing slower but not a problem with landscape. For everything else I found the default K to be fastest and most accurate. I can’t address still life as never done much of that.
I have an R screen and use it when I shoot the 50mm f/1.2. I find it a bit distracting over the E screen, which is glorious and really allows you to see an unobstructed scene.
