Nikon F2 noise question

My Nikon F2 Photomic came, and it's in very excellent condition. By the numbers, it's a late 73. But I haven't owned an F2 in a number of years and want to ask about a noise after the shutter trips, since I can't recall if it's normal or not. No, it's not a ping, because i know that and have had it before on other F2's. From 1 second to 1/15 depending on the shutter speed, there are clicking or bouncing sounds after the shutter trip cycle. 1/15 seems to have more clcks, and 1/30 only has a minor single click sound. From 1/60 on those sounds do not happen. It is NOT mirror bounce, becuse I'd know that situation. Hard to describe. It's almost as if the timing cogs have "leftover energy" in them and the sound is just something in there expending that leftover energy till you get to 1/60 and it uses it all. To put i t another way, imagine taking a section of a drinking straw and holding it up vertically on a formica countertop and dropping a BB down in it and listening for the faint bouncing sounds. Other than that, all speeds are as properly timed a a well-experienced photographic ear deems them to be. Is all this normal? Thank you.

Both my F2's make the same sound at those low speeds and it does sound like springs venting excess energy. The mirror bounce ping is different and I fixed that sound by replacing the foam block on the Mirror Box shock absorber.

One F2S I own makes this noise when set at 1/15 of a sec. but not at any other shutter speed. My other F2S does not make this sound at any shutter speed. My F2SB makes the sound you describe at 1/15 and 1/30 of a sec. but not at any other shutter speed. Both the F2Ss have been serviced this year and the other is well over due one. Hope this helps.

I don't know about the F2S, but many cameras have mechanical speed pallets that regulate the shutter speeds on slower exposures. Could be this (these?) mechanism(s) disengaging after an exposure.

It seems like you are hearing the slow speed escapement returning to it's "at rest" position. If so, it's perfectly normal on Fs and F2s. Lots of other cameras, too.

I'm appreciative of these answers. It had been so long since I owned one I forgot. As it turns out my F does it too, but much fainter. Truth be known, my F is a quieter camera. Anyway I got this F2 last week from Henry's Cameras in Canada. I paid about 120 USD for the body and DP-1 combo, and it's in as close to mint condition as I can imagine. It even has that "crisp" authoritative action in everything it does, with no stiffness or slop either way. I was amazed you could still find one like that all these years later. I apologize to the poor unfortunates I stole it from, out from under their noses on ebay. The bidding had been going on for days a dollar per time, and by end of auction, it was these last 2 bidders or so. They didn't even know I was there. And in the last 4 seconds I swooped in and snatched it .I cut it a little too close because when I hit submit, the screen stalled, and it was a long 10 seconds or so before a new screen came on saying I won the auction. I bet 2 or 3 guys out there were fit to be tied when their screens refreshed.
