I have had more trouble with my silver F2 as the Aperture Arm stopped working. When I had the black F2 dismantled I never took a good photo of that side of the mirror box. It was hard to find one on Google but eventually did on an eBay image that gave me an idea of what the spring looked like. The spring on the silver F2 was dislodged and the end broken off it maybe from metal fatigue or it had jumped off and got mangled. I managed to get it back into position and it looks like it should hold but to make sure I added some thin wire insurance. Seems to be working okay now. I know it looks a dodgy fix but hey whatever works!
I have loaded some more photos whilst I had the camera apart and these could be useful for other DIY camera mechanics

Ideally, I'd think replacement with a Nikon part would preserve the collector value. The battery compartment you removed looks pretty rough and it's hard to see that enhancing the camera's value. Nice work with the 3-d printer there!.. (If it were my camera, I'd just put in the replacement and not worry about it.) I have seen these on ebay...
Here are some vids on stripping down, basically you'll have to get to the shutter box to see whats going on. Probably just needs a clean and lube. You can fix the shutter PING while your there. If you think it looks too difficult or you dont have the tools, leave it for someone else.I ran into an issue with my F2. The advance lever will advance but the shutter won't cock. Aside from the obvious (camera needs a CLA) is this a common issue?

Thanks!
But...I like the ping.
