Nikon F2 Diopter Correction Lens

Hello All,

I've been searching the 'net today looking for correction lenses for my F2 Photomic finder. I see several around for the F3...not so much the F2. Does anyone know if an F3 diopter correction lens fits an F2?

Alan -

The F3 with the DE-2 finder (non-HP) takes the same diopter size as all the F2 heads, as well as the FE/FM series bodies. Probably a lot of other Nikon bodies as well.

The F3HP with DE-3 finder takes a larger diopter size as it's designed to allow relief for eyeglasses, thus needing a larger eyepiece.

The threads are the same. The outer flange is larger on the older diopters. When swapping the diopter from my F to my FM, I have to remove the diopter to open the back of the FM because the flange hangs over the edge. That's the only issue I have run into.

Before investing in a diopter, even if cheap, have your eyes checked. I bought two diopters. One for the F2 and one for the Leica M2 which wasn't cheap. Maybe four months later I found I couldn't see as good distance wise and went to the doc. They changed my glasses and now I can see with the standard diopter in both cameras and have filed away the ones I bought...lessons learned.

Having said that, if you can't get corrected to 20/20 or 20/30 you may indeed need that diopter.

Hello ColColt,

Funny you should mention glasses! I found an old pair of reading glasses--bought about 30 years ago when my "reading" glasses were less powerful --and they work GREAT for focusing my F2; no diopter adjustment needed.
