My F2 was suffering from intermittent meter fatigue- which I now know is a common malady. After putting in fresh batteries I checked the voltage on top of the body and only got 1.8 volts.

I finally got up the nerve to tear into it last week and found this:

The plastic battery holder was broken where the contact attaches, and the contact tab was super crusty. Turned out the wire was roached pretty badly also. I attempted to glue the broken ear back on the holder- but the plastic doesn't seem to like glue, and is extremely brittle.

I found a thread where @Raxorio had 3D scanned and printed a clone of this piece... but being a newbie on the forum I cannot PM that user. I've spliced in a new piece of wire and ordered a new-old stock battery compartment from York Camera.

Hopefully I can get it all back together properly- open to any tips or suggestions!

Separate from the battery compartment failure, but since you found damaged contacts/corrosion, may I suggest also cleaning the leaf switch that turns the meter on when you pull out the wind lever. It is easy to access by taking off the bottom cover. When you pull out the wind lever, a rod depresses a flexible contact to make the switch close. On mine the contacts were dirty, so there was no voltage to the pins on top.

Yes, thank you. I have the bottom cover off to access the wires and noticed that. It got a shot of Deoxit (wonderful stuff if you're not familiar).
