I just bought replacement batteries for my Nikon F2's and an FE and an FM (not sure of those model #'s, but they use the same batteries as the F2). Instead of the "barrel" shaped battery, I was sent two smaller batteries, to be stacked in the same chamber. The seller tells me that the barrel style is no longer sold, and just to use 2 of these together, oriented the same way (polarity-wise). Correct?

The barrel style is still made, but very difficult to get, my owners manual for my FG says to use either the barrel style or two smaller buttons stacked together, so based on this, I would say your seller is correct. The little black plastic tube in my battery chamber shows two button cells stacked together on the side of it.

Yes. And it's the same with the F3. Two 1.5v batteries in series will provide the required 3.0v.

The F2 was designed to take 2 1.5v battery. The barrel type 3V battery came out after the introduction of the F2. It works fine but the 2 batteries are to originally intended batteries for the F2.

IIRC, the barrel-type battery even had a groove around its body, so it "looked" like two, stacked 1.5V cells.

I know that this is a rather old thread but you can also use a 3v lithium battery. I like them better and they supposedly have a better voltage curve and longer life.
