Hey everyone!

I am servicing my first Nikon F. I have everything cleaned and lubricated, and I am on the shutter speeds adjustment step. Currently, whenever I adjust the shutter for 1/60th, it puts 1/500th around 1/250th and when I go to re-adjust 1/500th, it sends 1/60th to around 1/90th. I have tried adjusting the speeds with a curtains speed of 14.5ms, and 14ms, but I have gotten the same results both times. Does anyone have any suggestions of what to try from here?

Thanks!

I have seviced several and the curtain speeds were always more like 15.5 when I first start. Seemed like tightening up to get the 14.5 as per the book just made things harder. Put all your settings back like you found them. You might find that just doing the 1000 pulls 125 and 250 back to where its supposed to be. And leave 1/60 alone, as it's probably close enough anyway. Report back.

If Ic-racer checks in again on this thread, please advise as to what you are using for a shutter tester. As for me I'm using the $80 ebay one. Although it SEEMS alright in the speeds up to 125 maybe, I'm still dubious of it. Particularly since the 2 sensors are a good bit closer together than 36mm. I have no idea if the maker compensated for this when they programmed the milliseconds

Thanks for the advice! I’m doing this repair for a paying customer so I want to try and get 1/60th right if I can. I dropped the curtains down to 15.5ms and I was still having the same issue. I’ll double check it again tomorrow just to make sure.

I’m currently using the reveni labs shutter tester, it’s a pretty awesome piece of equipment and well worth the investment.
