For Sale Nikon F photomic and 50mm f2

This is a nice clean Nikon F with the photomic finder.
The camera seems to work great but I dont know how to test the meter in the finder.
(if someone could enlighten me that would be great)

The lens is in fantastic condition inside and out.

FWIW, this is a Photomic FTn finder, the latest Photomic head made specifically for the F. That might help if anyone has any compatibility questions.

Does the meter in the Photomic FTn require mercury batteries?

It was designed to use two of them.

It can be recalibrated, or use Wein cells.

You could try some 1.5 volt batteries to at least see if the meter is active and in the ballpark.
Or try the hearing aid batteries kluge which works well.

Make sure the lens is indexed correctly and showing the correct aperture in the front finder window.

I'd be interested if you can verify the meter is at least reasonable close.

how do I index the lens?

Mount the lens, turn the aperture ring fully to the left and to the right. The maximum aperture indicator on the front of the finder will stop at the correct value.

In the photo in post #1 you can see the red indicator at the f/2 setting.

Make sure you set the aperture to 5.6 before you mount it.
This lines up the hog nose to the metering prong inside the front of the finder housing.

Now rock to maximum aperture then minimum aperture and chck the red flag thing in the front finder and make sure it agrees with the max aperture of lens mounted.

Worth noting is that the semi-auto indexing procedure listed above is only done with the FTn. The previous three Photomic heads (Photomic, Photomic T, and Photomic TN) must be manually indexed.
