Nikon EM SLR does not make any under/over exposure warning sounds

I just bought a used Nikon EM SLR in great condition. When I read that the it is supposed to make beeping warning sounds when over 1/1000 sec or under 1/30 sec readings are made, it suppose to make warning beeping sounds. I hear nothing. I used new batteries and the battery check light goes on. I spent a lot of time searching the problem on Google. There was not a single reference to this problem. Please help me solve it. I wanted to give it to a beginner who could use this indication.

Mine doesn't either as it's faulty .
The shutter speeds are correct though .
So as long as your aware of your aperture and available light , you'll know if your at risk of too long a shutter speed to hand hold the camera .

Do the shutter speeds sound right for the apertures selected ?
The cameras obviously not worth paying someone to repair . It might just be a wire that developed a dry joint , or it might be one if the components . Unless you can repair it yourself it would be easier to get another and sell yours as parts only .

That's a feature that some might consider a bug, perhaps someone cut the wire on purpose.

Yes, that "beep" is more of an annoyance than a feature. It never worked on any EM that I had, thank goodness. You have a meter needle in the viewfinder, so there's no need for any beeping, that meter will tell you if you're under or over exposing a shot.

I'll be honest, when I read that I thought "Wait, EMs beep?"

I shot one for a while in the early 90s. The previous owner had disabled the beep, I bet. He was good with cameras, and had customized all his gear.

My EM beeps. It only beeps once when the shutter release is half press. You want it to beep again you have to release the shutter release button and half press it again. The beep is very soft and my old ears can't hear it unless I put the camera close to my ear.

When you take the top cover off (for repair/service) it's easy to accidentally break the wire that goes to the speaker.

Then, what you get is a silent EM.

Which, IMO, is an upgraded EM...

On a vehicle the warning lights on the dash are sometimes referred to as 'idiot lights', in this case the sound can be referred to as an 'idiot beep'!

I always disable that on any camera I use as they are irritating and I feel they could suggest to others that I don't know what I am doing!
