My Nikon EM has a problem with the film advance. I have quite a few overlapping frames, and by middle-end of a roll I get a lot of double exposures. When loading the film, winding on seems a bit anemic, like the film advance doesn't really want to pull the film out of the canister.

Anyone have any experience, ideas or suggestions? Is this something I can likely fix?

Sounds like a stripped or misaligned gear in the advance mechanism. Probably needs an experienced repair person and a parts camera for a fix.
