I have a vague recollection from years ago that Nikon made a rubber “hood” that could be attached to the DA-1’s large rectangular eyepiece by fitting into a raised lip. The idea, as I recall it, was that the photographer could bring the DA-1 with Hood to his/her eye and the hood, which stuck out perhaps an inch or so, thereby placed one’s eye at an ideal distance from the viewfinder, and also improved the contrast of the viewed image and made precise focusing easier. The MIR webpage on Nikon F finders makes no mention of a rubber hood, but my memory persists...I guess the lip around viewfinder could have been intended to hold a protective cover, but it could also attach a hood. So — does anyone else remember a hood, or am I hallucinating?

I think those rubber hoods were only introduced with the F4's DA-20 action finder. F5's DA-30 also had one.
