Some of the Benser cases for Leica M and thread mount cameras were soft leather like this. Nice alternatives to the massive hard leather units.

Yes. It's the CF-57. IIRC I used mine for the first 3-4 outings. After that, it was banished to the closest; I just spent a couple of minutes looking for it without luck. As the old saw goes, "EverReady Cases aren't, but gadget bags are."

Thanks. Found a photo of one; rather bulky. Think I'll stick with my bag.

I was never a professional photographer, but i have been around cameras and many people that like cameras for 40 years.
I never used one of those cases, and i rarely saw another person use one.
I have watched hundreds if not thousands of videos about 35mm photography and rarely if ever see those cases or hear them discussed.
Are they even made for a Digital SLR.?
What do people use them for, just as protection when they are tossed in the back of a van or taken on a plane.?

A lot of them came in two parts. You could leave the bottom part on and do everything with the camera except change film. The bottom part protected the camera and, for many people, provided a better surface for holding the camera. When it was time to put the camera away or to transport it, the protective top part clipped on quickly.
They were well suited to people who often used the same roll of film on more than one occassion.
