Hi,

I'm looking for a complete scanning solution for 35mm negatives and slides. My current candidates are Nikon Coolscan V or Nikon Super Coolscan 5000. I would prefer if you have both the film strip adapter and slide adapter included, or even the FH-3. Cosmetic condition is not that important, as long as the entire setup is working properly. Shipping to California 94010.

Thanks!

And to add a bit more context, I already have Epson V700 flatbed scanner. It is totally fine for 120 and 4x5, but in my opinion lacking for 35mm. Thus I'm looking for a dedicated 35mm scanner with high resolution and excellent dynamic range. And reasonably modern, e.g. using USB instead of firewire or SCSI.

NikonScan software was not updated after Windows 7, so it might fail on Windows 10. Be prepared to use VueScan or Silverfast instead.

I just got a 4000 ED. Matt (Albada) is correct. Nikon scan does not work with my Windows 10 or 7. It won't pick up the scanner. I'm using Vuescan which is good but the whole setup is finicky. I had to install a PCIe firewire and then figure out which computer it worked better with. As far as I stand after nearly a week of messing around the scanner only works on its side, with preview DPI set over 667 and the firewire to DV not Firewire to firewire port. Also, the 4000dpi files are massive, 150mb each. I scaled back to 2400 48bit to get about 50mb files.

This might be only me but this is pretty tricky. For B&W it's not really worth it, I'm going to stick with DSLR scanning. For color? The ICE makes such a major difference. Night and day.

I've found Vuescan very reliable on my V with Win 10 and 11, no special tricks at al. My old film is rarely troubled by dust, but Vuescan does seem to deal nicely with dust etc when necessary. No special tricks.

Thank you all for the software related suggestions! It will be useful once I get my hands on a Nikon CoolScan.

I have used VueScan in the past, and can manage it. Even though nowadays I'm just lazy using Epson Scan in professional mode for my Epson V700. My friend Jan, who is meticulous with scanning, cannot live without SilverFast Ai and custom film profiles.
