Hi All,

I just got my hands on a Nikon Coolscan 8000. I'm using a standalone Imac from 2011 so I can't use Nikon Scan (I've tried and failed- its definitely not supported by OS X Yosemite). I already own Vuescan and they seem to be working well together. My main issue is that I don't believe the 6x7 film format that I'm scanning is cropping correctly. I can't figure out what crop settings I should be using in Vuescan (there are numerous options). I'm not trying to batch scan as the Nikon 8000 can only do (2) 6x7 images per piece of film. But the preview is not showing me the whole image area at once. Its only showing me a single frame. And I can't move the border box past what the scan is calling the end of the image.

Has anyone experienced anything like this?
Is there any possible way this could be a scanning problem?
I had the scanner serviced by a Nikon Coolscan repair person who lives locally and he says its totally functional now, in decent shape.
I also tried the demo version of SilverFast and I had a similar experience. The software never showed me the whole image area at once.
When I've used SilverFast with Nikon 8000 at my school, it shows me a preview with both images.

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

try to find a copy of Vuescan bible. i found a copy at my library. It will answer all your questions.

for 6x7's you need to set the image size to 72mm, then on crop set it to manual. also, use batch scan. for 3x7 you can, if i remember correctly, scan 2 frames at a time, so on batch you can adjust frame 1 then frame 2. im on vacation now and not in front of my scanner computer, so these are best guesses.

I had some issues with a scanner doing something similar. You might try using the 32 bit version of Vuescan if you are using the 64 right now. I use both on my Mac depending on the scanner I am using. Hamrick gave me that advice directly. Also, you might try dumping Vuescan including your preference files and reinstalling it. If you don't know how to do that, use a program like CCCleaner. Those are simple suggestions for you, but that is where I would start.

Hope that help you.
