OK, Nikon Action Touch owners, make me a deal I cant refuse.
I tried to buy off ebay, and the one guy that had a functioning one for a decent price refused to ship it, then re-listed it for twice what I won the auction for.:whistling:

Did you file a claim against him? That should shut him down from re-selling it or even using eBay for a while, a-holes like that make the site bad... Hope you gave him a bad feedback...

I have one, but it's my fall back underwater camera when my digi ones fill up with water! (happened twice!)

The postage from my part of the world would probably be more than the cameras worth, but I'm intrigued, why the desire for one of these little bricks? No Nikonos(s) available cheap now?

just gonna say -- you can pick up a nikonos for $100 or so with lens. vastly superior camera, later models have meters. solid down to 300 feet.

I want this for above water and a little bit of snorkeling, and splashing kid shots. I am not scuba diving, but I want something cheap to play with for a one or two rolls of ektar and some of my other oddball emulsions.

Notice my sig, $100+ is out of my camera budget, especially for such a limited use camera. Nikonos have one lens that works for both above and below water.

I also have one that I was thinking of selling. I live in Sweden, so postage might be an issue. How much are they worth?

Any idea what the max aperture is in that?

sent from phone. excuse my typing.

It's a cheapo, the one I researched that I own (non-flash version) I believe was f/60 or f/100 and an aperture of f/11... Hence the 800 speed film.

I plan to do pre-testing of course to confirm that.

Check shopgoodwill.com, I think there's a newer and an older Nikonos on there now. Nikonos 5's show up periodically and go for between $100 and $200. If you hold out, you can get one with flash.

From my research, you want a Nikonos 5. Getting the replacement o-rings is the issue on all of them. Do some Googling and there are sites that list all the things you need to know about their "issues". There's a small user community that can offer some support.

Do any of those have the ability to add some kind if wireless trigger for strobes?

I think it's contacts only on those. They're "needy" in terms of maintenance and rinsing after use. o-rings need to be replaced on a yearly basis, I believe and there are other weak points (check Google for websites, there's a subculture that can help you decide which to buy and support you after you buy). My decision was to avoid them, much as I'd like to have one, because of the numerous gotchas and the scarcity of replacement parts.

The newer one on shopgoodwill right now is a 4A...http://www.shopgoodwill.com/auctions/Nikon-Nikonos-35mm-Underwater-Camera-15848615.html

See here: http://www.southern-nikonos.com/WorkShop/Nikonos-V/Orings1-6/Part1/orings1.htm
for a discussion of the intricacies of Nikonos o-rings, and I believe that the only ones still available are for the Nikonos V (NOS and not all of them), but don't hold me to it.
More o-ring details: there are generic replacements (McMaster) for the "user" o-rings, but there are "internal" o-rings that require camera disassembly and yearly maintenance:

Like I said, my research indicated it would be more work that I was willing to do. Beautiful camera, though

Fastidious maintenance of o rings is only necessary if one is pushing the limits of the camera's water tightness. If used for snorkeling then not so much.

First, I stopped with goodwill's site a while ago when I figured out how much the stores charged in fees + shipping. I also get no response from emailed questions. At least with ebay, sellers have to worry about their feedback.

I just dont want to deal with Nikonos. They are too much camera for what I want and there is only one lens for it that works above water. I may not put more than 3 rolls of film through whatever I get so dumping $100+ on a camera is not going to happen. My usual camera budget is $30 and for point and shoots like this $30 is a lot.

As far as that little disposable, f11 and Ektar 100 would limit my use. Most of this will be beach and
sandy campground use with maybe 2 trips into the water.

I really think the action touch is the camera with f2.8, manual focus and very shallow water usage.

Check into the Minolta Weathermatic Dual 35 and see if that might be something that would work for you. I have a working one I'd let go cheap. PM me if you're interested.

I'd say you'd be lucky to find an Action Touch for $30. It's a specialized camera with a wonderful lens.

There are several in this range on the bay. Some are available for way more because people like to dream about selling things for way more than they are worth. I like to buy for less than that. ; )

Yah, I like to buy that way too.

So, some are available on ebay in your price range. So what's the problem?

No problem at all, but I would rather buy from an Apug'er without having to snipe auctions and deal with the bay if I can avoid it. Some of my best buys are from the Apug classifieds! At least you guys (hopefully me too) know how to check and see if they work.
