Hi there, first post here.

I just bought a Nikon 8000 from a guy on APUG, and, well, it's loud. Is this something normal and I need to get used to it, or do I have damaged goods??

I ask because I've searched google, here, APUG and haven't found any other complaints like mine. I did remove the cover to see if something might jump out as the cause, but it appears that it's the normal sound coming from the fine control motor (the one that turns the screw gear).

Are there any strategies that anyone uses to get a quieter experience with this scanner?

Thanks in advance for any advice... ~~~Brian

My 9000 was pretty obnoxiously loud with Vuescan. With Nikon Scan in 4x oversampling mode it is a much quieter more refined sound. I would say depends on software and settings.
